Which mattress?

How to help you
to sleep well?
There are so many ways to sleep, it's normal to have lots of questions! Here are our answers on the subject of General
There are several things you can do to have a good night's sleep:
· The room must be a quiet place, without noise, without light with a temperature not exceeding 19°
· Eat a light dinner at least 2 hours before bedtime.
· Do calm, relaxing activities at the end of the day
· Practice physical activity during the day, avoid sport at the end of the day Go to bed and wake up at regular times
· Alcohol, nicotine and foods containing caffeine interfere with sleep
· Avoid screens at least 1 to 2 hours before bedtime
· Getting up at the same time every day, including weekends, helps to synchronise the sleep-wake rhythm
And of course have good bedding 😉
Several studies recommend sleeping on your back. A position adopted by only 8% of people, which nevertheless allows you to truly rest your body, relieve the spine and neck and avoid discomforts such as heartburn. Yet it is perhaps the best position for sleeping.
That said, be careful, because this is the position that most promotes snoring. Note that it is imperative that the pillow is well placed to support the head but that it should not be too raised.
Not to be confused with the fetal position. Sleeping on your side is more natural for many people. Starting with pregnant women who are advised to sleep on their left side to promote good blood circulation. Sleeping on your side is also good when you don't want to risk snoring and it prevents particularly unpleasant gastric reflux.
Only 7% of the population sleeps on their stomach, with their head turned to one side or the other, sometimes with a hand or forearm under the pillow. This is the so-called "free fall" posture. Sleeping on your stomach, while it may seem natural, is not good.
When sleeping on your stomach, a lot of pressure is exerted on your muscles and joints. The spine no longer supports the body. After a while, if this position is repeated regularly, pain may appear, as well as tension and numbness in the neck and even the jaw.
In an article published in Madame Figaro, osteopath/physiotherapist Samuel Homo warns against this position which increases physiological lordosis, that is to say that it aggravates the hollow between the pelvis and the bottom of the ribs. Which invariably leads to pressure on the vertebral discs, the lumbar region but also, as if that were not enough, the sacrum. Having the head turned to the side also exerts pressure on the cervical vertebrae.
It is strongly discouraged for people suffering fromSleep Apnea sleeping on your stomach because this is a position that does not facilitate breathing at all. When you sleep on your stomach, the rib cage opens less easily than when you sleep on your back, for example. The swallowing muscles are put under pressure.
In conclusion, we can say that the position we adopt every night is not insignificant. Insomnia, sleep apnea, sleepwalking and all other sleep disorders can be aggravated by a bad position. That said, it is appropriate to moderate these sometimes slightly worrying observations by remembering that we move during our sleep. To varying degrees depending on the person, but still. If we fall asleep more easily on our side or on our stomach, we can also wake up on our back. Sometimes, it is appropriate to re-educate ourselves to adopt the right behaviors. Training yourself to fall asleep on your side or on your back is, for example, entirely appropriate. It is also of course advisable to seek the advice of a specialist who will be able to guide you and give you the keys to a more peaceful sleep and more pleasant awakenings...
·You have trouble falling asleep
·You wake up too early
·You have unpleasant sensations in your legs that prevent you from sleeping
·You are tired in the morning
·You feel like sleeping during the day
·You struggle to stay active
·Your sleep is restless, those around you are worried about snoring and breathing stops during sleep
🌤️ The day
Blinds and windows should be closed during their entire exposure to the sun. Their double obstacle limits the entry of heat into the room.
If your home has several windows, alternate opening and closing them depending on their exposure to the sun.
Leave your windows open on the shaded side if this allows for drafts. If it is not possible to create drafts with only the shaded windows, keep them closed.
Cool rooms by evaporating water: place a damp towel or cloth in front of an open window so that the evaporation cools the atmosphere. Re-wet the cloth as soon as it is dry. Place a block of ice or a bag of ice cubes in a draft (in front of a fan).
🌖 In the evening
When the sun has set AND the outside temperature has dropped, open the last windows. Regularly pour a bucket of water, if possible, in the evening after sunset, on a terrace, balcony or window sill.
🌙 At night
Leave windows open whenever possible and allow for airflow.
If you have a complaint about your bedding. You must address your request to the partner store that sold you your bedding, accompanied by the original invoice and photos of the product.
Since 2018 Technilat has been ISO14001 certified
Through this international standard, we are committed to assessing and improving our environmental impact.
To achieve this objective it is necessary to implement appropriate actions through our teams and our facilities.
This concerns our entire operation: our working methods, the tools and materials we use, waste management, etc.
Our mattresses are designed to last, which is a benefit for our sleepers and for the environment.
We do our best to collaborate with suppliers who are geographically close. All solutions are good to implement and it is little by little that we improve our way of manufacturing.
Today, the average size of bedding purchased is increasingly moving towards 160 x 200 cm or even 180 x 200 cm, whereas 10 years ago the standard was 140 x 190.
If you have enough space and you sleep as a couple, we recommend that you opt for bedding measuring at least 160 x 200 cm. During the night we move on average 40 times, and the larger the space, the more room you have to move and avoid disturbing your sleep and that of your partner.
In hot weather, the large dimensions also make it easier to stretch out, especially if you sleep in starfish mode 😉
There are so many ways to sleep, it's normal to have lots of questions! Here are our answers on the subject of Mattress
Your mattress will be with you for an average of 10 years of your life, and taking care of your mattress also means guaranteeing you even better nights.
We lose an average of 40cl of water every night of sleep. For a couple, the mattress must therefore absorb and evacuate nearly 300 liters of water per year!
This is why it is essential to maintain your bedding.
· Reverse the head and foot sections of your mattress. The structure of your Technilat mattress allows this.
· If your mattress has a Winter/Summer side, turn it over once a month
· When you air your room, don't hesitate to remove the mattress cover. For your health it is good to air your room and your mattress too!
· Vacuum your mattress and on and under your box spring
The mattress supports 2/3 of the stress imposed on the bedding and the box spring the remaining 1/3. It is therefore recommended to change them at the same time.
Here are some simple but essential steps to take before making a decision:
· lie down on the bed for several minutes and close your eyes to concentrate on what you feel;
· lie on your back: if you can pass your hand between your lower back and the mattress, the mattress is too firm;
· lean on one elbow: if it sinks into the mattress, it is not firm enough;
· always try with two people if you sleep together.
· ask for as much advice as possible in store, on technologies, mattress fillings, etc.
